Why this pick
A gentle cross-time romance with letter-based intimacy, wistful longing, and a polished urban-fairytale mood that echoes Kate & Leopold’s blend of impossible love and everyday modern life.
Why this pick
Its earnest, sweeping time-crossed courtship shares Kate & Leopold’s central ache: two people divided by an era, drawn together through idealism, elegance, and unabashed romantic feeling.
Why this pick
A charming, lightly comic fantasy about slipping into another era, balancing period enchantment with present-day romantic uncertainty much like Kate & Leopold’s playful historical-modern contrast.
Why this pick
For its glossy, old-fashioned romantic sensibility and a love story complicated by time itself, told with warmth, emotional restraint, and a touch of magical realism.
Why this pick
It has the same sincere, escapist rom-com appeal: an ordinary woman enters an unfamiliar world and finds a tender connection built on kindness rather than cynicism.

01 / THE STORY
On 28 April 1876, Leopold, His Grace the 3rd Duke of Albany, is a stifled dreamer. He has created a design for a primitive elevator, and has built a small model of this device. His strict Uncle Millard has no patience for what he characterises as a sign of Leopold's disrespect for the Monarchy, chastising him, and telling him he must marry a rich American, as the Mountbatten family finances are depleted. In response to his uncle's accusations of his blemishing the family name, Leopold counters that the new nobility is to be found in those who pursue initiatives, hence his interest in the sciences and inventions.
