Why this pick
Its bereaved father’s vendetta begins in blunt, wintry grief, then collides with eccentric allies and mordant humor—matching the tonal agility of Moland’s deadpan crime tale.
Why this pick
Another Moland film, it shares the dry Scandinavian absurdity, taciturn protagonist, snowy working-class texture, and unexpectedly humane criminal-world complications of In Order of Disappearance.
Why this pick
A very dark Danish comedy with an unflappable lead, grotesque criminal improvisation, and a coolly controlled visual style; its laughs land through discomfort rather than broad gags.
Why this pick
Criminal misfits, abrupt violence, and deadpan jokes are balanced with genuine affection. Its tough, weathered atmosphere and oddball group dynamics echo the film’s blend of brutality and warmth.
Why this pick
This crime thriller likewise makes a stoic, caustic public servant the center of escalating danger, finding dry humor in violence, local color, and mismatched alliances.

01 / THE STORY
Nils Dickman is a snow plow driver in the town of Tyos, Norway, just elected citizen of the year. His life, however, is shattered by the death of his son Ingvar, found dead by overdose of heroin. The police do not investigate the story but Dickman is sure that his son wasn't a drug user. When he's about to kill himself he learns from Finn, his son's friend, that Ingvar was mistakenly killed by a gang of drug dealers who actually intended to kill Finn.
