Why this pick
A buoyant 1990s romantic chase through Italy, pairing an idealistic American with an unexpected European adventure and the same warm, escapist faith in love as French Kiss.
Why this pick
Its sunlit Provence setting, prickly cross-cultural romance, and relaxed transformation of a tightly wound protagonist echo French Kiss’s breezy European charm.
Why this pick
A meticulously planned woman is thrown off course while travelling abroad and sparring with an irreverent local, delivering a similarly cosy opposites-attract road-romance rhythm.
Why this pick
For French Kiss’s comforting romantic-comedy glow: beautiful travel-fantasy surroundings, adult vulnerability, witty friction, and an unhurried route toward emotional renewal.
Why this pick
It shares the pleasure of an American rediscovering herself amid idyllic European scenery, with gentle humour and romance growing out of a disrupted life plan.

01 / THE STORY
A fastidious and wholesome history teacher named Kate (Ryan) is living in Canada with her fiancé, Charlie (Timothy Hutton), a dentist. While waiting for her Canadian citizenship to come through, Kate has been busy planning their wedding and the purchase of their first house, complete with a white picket fence. When Charlie urges her to accompany him to Paris for an upcoming conference, she declines due to her fear of flying and her general intolerance for cheese, secondhand smoke, and the French.
