Why this pick
Holofcener’s similarly unforced Los Angeles comedy finds wit and tenderness in adult friendships, romantic uncertainty, and the little self-protective judgments people make.
Why this pick
A warm, grown-up romantic comedy with an easy conversational rhythm, focused less on grand gestures than on imperfect people cautiously learning what they need from one another.
Why this pick
Its romance is built through relaxed, specific banter and emotional honesty, balancing awkward humor with the complications that arrive when two adults’ lives do not neatly align.
Why this pick
For the pleasure of smart, naturalistic conversation between adults: a funny, intimate relationship film that lets affection, irritation, and history coexist without easy answers.
Why this pick
A candid, affectionate indie comedy whose romantic vulnerability and sharply observed friend dynamics carry the same lived-in, non-glossy warmth.
