Why this pick
Like Elle, it turns sexual power games and shifting alliances into sleek, mischievous psychological suspense, led by women who refuse to remain easily readable.
Why this pick
Isabelle Huppert’s tightly controlled performance again anchors an unsettling study of desire, humiliation, and self-command, with the same cool refusal to offer comfortable judgment.
Why this pick
A polished, darkly playful French thriller about voyeurism and manipulation, where social cruelty and erotic tension keep destabilising who holds power.
Why this pick
Its immaculate surfaces, perverse humour, and escalating unease make it a strong fit for Elle’s blend of bourgeois confidence, sexual menace, and morally unsteady perspective.
Why this pick
For Elle’s nerve-racking ambiguity and protagonist who distrusts conventional reassurance: a poised, intimate thriller that lets discomfort accumulate inside an outwardly civil gathering.

01 / THE STORY
Michèle Leblanc is raped in her home by an assailant in a ski mask, then cleans up the mess and resumes her life. She is the head of a successful video game company, where her male employees are alternately resentful of or infatuated with her. She carries on an affair with Robert, the husband of her friend and business partner Anna, and flirts with her married neighbor Patrick. Michèle feels detached from her son Vincent, who submits to his abusive, pregnant girlfriend Josie. She has a contentious relationship with her mother, Irène, whom she resents for her narcissism and involvements with younger men. Furthermore, she is the daughter of an infamous mass murderer whose parole hearing is approaching. Haunted by her father's actions, Michèle is wary of law enforcement and does not report her rape to police.
