Why this pick
Chytilová returns to Daisies’ collage-like editing, defiant female energy, shifting colour and biblical playfulness, but turns its anarchic visual language toward a more dreamlike Eden.
Why this pick
A Czech New Wave fever dream with similarly audacious colour, fairy-tale absurdity and feminine rebellion; its logic is sensual and mischievous rather than conventionally narrative.
Why this pick
Its two women build a gleefully conspiratorial world through games, repetition and performance, offering Daisies’ playful female partnership in a looser, labyrinthine form.
Why this pick
Its punk collage of women, provocation and cultural wreckage shares Daisies’ gleeful disrespect for order, with equally bold stylisation and an anti-establishment bite.
Why this pick
Terayama’s theatrical sets, saturated imagery and deliberate ruptures between memory, fantasy and reality make it a strong match for Daisies’ surreal visual freedom.

01 / THE STORY
The opening sequence is that of a spinning flywheel with shots of airplanes strafing the ground. The shots of the airplanes are from US Navy footage shot in the Pacific Theatre during World War II. The first scene shows the two main characters sitting in bathing suits. Their conversation is robotic and from that point on they decide to be bad. The next scene shows Marie I and Marie II dancing in front of a tree. The tree has many fruits and resembles the Tree of the knowledge of good and evil. Once Marie I eats from the tree, they both fall and appear in their apartment. Marie II attempts suicide by filling the room with gas, but fails because she left the window open.
