Why this pick
Pontecorvo’s urgent, documentary-like staging and morally thorny anti-colonial struggle make this the closest companion to Burn!’s political force, escalating tension, and refusal of easy heroes.
Why this pick
Like Burn!, it follows revolutionary consciousness shaped inside systems of power, combining procedural detail, tactical tension, and a cool-eyed view of manipulation and resistance.
Why this pick
Its hard-edged late-1960s political mood and Brando presence may appeal, though it is a more intimate, less historically expansive thriller than Burn!.
Why this pick
A deliberately anachronistic, furious portrait of a U.S. adventurer engineering power abroad; it shares Burn!’s anti-imperial anger while replacing solemn realism with confrontational satire.
Why this pick
This tightly constructed political thriller channels institutional violence and state complicity into mounting procedural suspense, matching Burn!’s anger and sharp sense of power operating behind public events.

01 / THE STORY
In 1844, the British Empire Admiralty sends Sir William Walker (Brando), an ''agent provocateur'', to the fictional island of Queimada, a Portuguese Empire possession in the Lesser Antilles. Britain seeks to open the island to exploitation by the fictional Antilles Royal Sugar Company. Walker's task is to organize an uprising of slavery in the Caribbeans against the Portuguese regime, which the British intend to replace with a government dominated by pliable white fazenda.
