Why this pick
Zahler again pairs a spare, punishing build with sudden extreme brutality, centered on a stubborn man forced through an increasingly merciless ordeal.
Why this pick
Its sun-scorched frontier setting, morally corroded lawmen and outlaws, and unflinching eruptions of violence closely suit Bone Tomahawk’s grim revisionist-Western mood.
Why this pick
For the pleasure of an isolated Western ensemble: tense conversations and shifting allegiances gradually turn a snowbound refuge into a brutal pressure cooker.
Why this pick
This unnerving frontier horror similarly lets a rugged period trek curdle into body-horror terror, while retaining darkly dry humor and a tactile, hostile landscape.
Why this pick
A slower, dreamlike companion for Bone Tomahawk’s bleak frontier sensibility, following a wounded outsider through a stark, spiritually ominous West.
