Why this pick
A volatile theatre production becomes a raw portrait of a performer unraveling under pressure. Its abrasive intimacy and show-business anxiety echo Fosse’s unsparing view of creativity and self-destruction.
Why this pick
Fellini’s director faces creative paralysis amid lovers, collaborators, memories, and fantasies. The fluid movement between reality and inner spectacle makes it a natural companion to Gideon’s fevered self-portrait.
Why this pick
Another Fosse musical where performance is inseparable from private compromise and social unease. Its precise choreography, sensual staging, and darkening emotional undertow suit the theatrical charge of All That Jazz.
Why this pick
The breathless backstage momentum and protagonist’s increasingly unstable inner life update All That Jazz’s portrait of a desperate artist trying to convert personal collapse into one last great performance.
Why this pick
For the sensory rush of All That Jazz’s musical fantasy: this is an ecstatic, stylized backstage romance whose glittering performances are shadowed by longing, sacrifice, and mortality.

01 / THE STORY
Joe Gideon is a theater director and choreographer trying to balance staging his latest Broadway musical with editing a Hollywood film he has directed. He is a workaholic who chain-smokes cigarettes; without a daily dose of Antonio Vivaldi, Visine, Alka-Seltzer, Dextroamphetamine, and Sexual intercourse, he wouldn't have the energy to keep up the biggest "show" of all—his life. His girlfriend Katie Jagger, his ex-wife Audrey Paris, and daughter Michelle try to pull him back from the brink, but it is too late for his exhausted body and stress-ravaged heart. In his imagination, he flirts with an Death (personification) named Angelique.
