Why this pick
Like All Is Lost, it builds gripping survival tension from practical decisions, dwindling resources, and a near-wordless lone performance against an indifferent natural environment.
Why this pick
This dialogue-free castaway fable shares All Is Lost’s elemental isolation and visual storytelling, but turns solitary endurance into something more meditative and quietly transcendent.
Why this pick
A storm-battered ocean survival drama with similarly tactile sailing detail and escalating physical stakes, while adding a restrained emotional thread to the ordeal.
Why this pick
Its hostile maritime setting, severe weather, and relentless sensory atmosphere echo All Is Lost’s struggle against the sea, though this is a more psychologically feverish two-hander.
Why this pick
It delivers a compact, ocean-bound survival contest driven by improvisation and mounting exhaustion, with the same pleasure in watching a lone protagonist solve immediate problems.

During a solo voyage in the Indian Ocean, a veteran mariner awakes to find his vessel taking on water after a collision with a stray shipping container. With his radio and navigation equipment disabled, he sails unknowingly into a violent storm and barely escapes with his life.
