Why this pick
Like All Fall Down, this is an intense study of a charismatic young man whose cruelty dominates everyone around him, rendered with confrontational performances and a suffocating, psychologically raw mood.
Why this pick
Its disturbed golden-boy figure and poisoned small-town family dynamics echo All Fall Down’s portrait of privilege, violence, and desire curdling beneath a polished surface.
Why this pick
Natalie Wood’s yearning, damaged heroine and the film’s humid, decaying atmosphere make it a similarly melancholy 1960s drama about emotional confinement and destructive attraction.
Why this pick
This has the same unsettling pull of youthful charisma turning predatory, though filtered through sharper satire and an increasingly feverish vision of generational rebellion.

01 / THE STORY
Berry-Berry Willart (Beatty) is a young, handsome hedonism drifter who has no trouble living off the women of all ages he seduces. When the women become too attached to him, his charm turns sadistic and frequently lands him in jail for Battery (crime). Berry-Berry is always on the road far from home, is rarely seen by his drunken father Ralph (Karl Malden), his adoring but controlling and manipulative mother, Annabel (Angela Lansbury), or his sixteen-year-old brother Clinton (Brandon deWilde).
